Description of content: The Philippines is imposing temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds, including poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and semen originating from Jeollabuk-do and Jeollanam-do, Republic of Korea.

Nature of the urgent problem(s) and reason for urgent action: An outbreak of high pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) of the subtype H5N8 was detected among the breeding ducks as officially reported last 18 January 2014 to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). There is a need to prevent the entry of HPAI virus to protect the health of the public and the local poultry population.
